How to Get Rid of a Slow Metabolism
Symptoms of a slow metabolism may include fatigue, feeling cold, dry skin and low blood pressure. If you suffer from any of these symptoms, you may want to take steps to rev up your metabolism.
To get rid of a slow metabolism you may have to eat more. Dieting will actually slow down your metabolism, so aim to eat three meals a day, plus a healthy morning and afternoon snack. Eat enough that you are not hungry, but not so much that you're stuffed. Your meals should be about 400 calories. Eating every three to four hours will make you less likely to eat a lot later in the day. Protein will give you a faster metabolism than eating carbohydrates or fat. Eat a balanced diet with plenty of protein rich foods like, beans, meats and fish.
Increasing daily activity will boost your metabolism. Shorter, more intense workouts are best. These workouts keep your metabolism working after your workout is finished. Building muscle is another way to rev up your metabolism. Weight training should be done once or twice a week to build muscle mass.
You should also eat breakfast if you want to get rid of a slow metabolism. Eating in the morning “awakens” your metabolism. Try to have an egg and whole wheat bread to start the day. Eating breakfast may also help you lose weight by keeping you less hungry throughout the day.
Drinking some coffee or tea can also rev your metabolism. You make want to also make your carbohydrates more fiber rich. Switch to whole grain breads and pastas and eat a lot of fruit and vegetables.
Studies show that vitamin D is also important in raising metabolism. You can get this vitamin by eating salmon, shrimp, tofu, or eggs. Lack of calcium could also be the problem with your metabolism, so drink more milk or eat more yogurt.
Exercise, a balanced diet, and tweaking your daily routine a little could result in weight loss and getting rid of a slow metabolism.
